AENA required the project management and basic and detailed design for a 1,000 m extension of the existing Code 4E runway from threshold 19, along with a new cargo and general aviation apron. The works budget for this contract was approximately €30M euros.

The design works carried out by AERTEC Solutions for this contract included the following key elements:

¬ Airfield capacity analysis of the existing & new layout using SIMMOD
¬ Earthworks, vertical alignment and levelling
¬ Pavement and drainage
¬ New Approach Lighting System & other AGL
¬ All associated works including enabling works and diversion of existing services
¬ Hardened “shoulders” to provide a dust- suppression system and the resurfacing of the existing runway
¬ Two new rapid exit taxiways and new holding bays
¬ In addition, the existing parallel taxiway was upgraded to be used as a contingency runway
