The Capitán FAP Pedro Canga Rodríguez Airport in Tumbes is the most north-western commercial airport in Peru, close to the border with Ecuador and is used as an access point to the beaches of Máncora and Punta Sal, two of the country’s main sun and beach destinations. It is located 16 km north of the city of Tumbes.

The public purpose of the project is to expand and comprehensively improve the operational conditions of the Tumbes airport, in order to raise the level of safety and service for air transport users in the region, contributing to commercial, industrial, tourism and cultural development in the area.

To this end, the AERTEC-SENER joint venture prepared the pre-investment study at the profile level for the project entitled “Improvement of the airport service in the Tumbes region through the modernisation of the Capitán FAP Pedro Canga Rodríguez Airport in the city of Tumbes”.

The main objective of the profile study is the identification of the problem and its causes, the objectives of the project, the adequate identification of alternatives for the solution of the problem and the evaluation of the technical, economic, social and environmental impact of the alternatives.
