IDEX 21 was held during the last week of February in Abu Dhabi. The biannual IDEX fair is the most important defence fair in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
AERTEC’s commercial office in Abu Dhabi opened two years ago to provide service nearer to various Middle East projects and to attend to commercial opportunities in the Emirati market’s growing defence industry.
This edition of IDEX was very special as it was the defence sector’s first large event to take place in person since the coronavirus pandemic halted all manner of specialised fairs. AERTEC did not miss this event with IDEX being the first defence fair marking the company’s return to a physical presence internationally, beyond Spain’s borders. The Spanish technology company was one of 900 exhibitors from 59 countries participating in the event, attended by approximately 62,000 visitors (according to the organizer’s data), which is an outstanding number.
AERTEC had its own stand to exhibit its Defence solutions provided by the TARSIS fixed-wing UAS, with a wingspan of over 5m and 75 kg of MTOW, with integrated air-to-ground A-Fox laser-guided micro-missiles, and laser designation capability. All of this has been developed with proprietary technology, designed and built to offer very important specifications in terms of payload and autonomy: up to 12 kg, and up to 12 hours, respectively as well as a communications range of up to 160 km.
The AERTEC stand received numerous visits from official delegations from entities such as Spain’s Ministry of Defence, led by the Admiral Director of the Directorate General of Armaments and Material (DGAM), and Oficaex, the United Arab Emirate Army’s official delegation, representatives of the Emirati Minister of Defence and from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, as well as the main Emirati Defence companies.
