AERTEC Solutions homes in on the United Kingdom and with the help of Airbus, commences a pioneering project to apply video game technology to the aerospace industry.

The multinational aeronautical engineering firm makes an impact on the British aerospace market with the launch of a project that aims to adapt video game technology and its virtual reality applications to digitalise knowledge and management processes in aircraft manufacturing plants.

The project is being undertaken along with Airbus Group Innovations (AGI), the technological subsidiary of Airbus, and the prestigious Cranfield University, that boasts a longstanding tradition of research in the UK aeronautical field.

The initiative seeks to investigate video game technologies and establish new practical applications that may be adapted to the aeronautical industrial sector. Furthermore, it proposes the development of technology demonstration and prototypes that may endorse a new technology, whose final product is destined to be exploited by AERTEC Solutions in the international market.

Being awarded this contract has both secured and strengthened the expansion of this global enterprise in the British market, where its new office in Bristol was inaugurated at the start of 2013.

Given the great strategic importance of the British market in this specialised branch of aerospace, a section of the General Management of this firm, with projects across the five continents, has relocated to Bristol.

Growth in the British market is an integral part of the firm’s plan to expand internationally. It strives to both stabilise and spread its presence across Europe and North Africa, expanding its business activity throughout new critical places of interest, such as South America.

Bristol, January 20, 2014.- AERTEC Solutions, engineering and consultancy firm specialised in the aerospace industry and airports, with presence in the largest aeronautical programmes worldwide and projects in more than 70 airports scattered across the five continents, has impressed the United Kingdom with the launch of a pioneering, innovation project that may entail a huge technological advance for the international aerospace sector. The firm is working alongside Airbus Group Innovations (AGI), the technological subsidiary of Airbus and the prestigious Cranfield University that boasts a longstanding tradition of research in the UK aeronautical field, on a project aiming to apply video game technology to new branches of industry, including that of aerospace.

The project’s aim is to adapt technology and the context of virtual reality, which is currently associated with the videogame sector, to the digitalisation of knowledge and management processes in aircraft manufacturing plants. This innovative feat endeavours to offer a framework for the development of some of the next generation technologies centred on the aerospace sector. In particular, the main objective is to move forward with regard to the development of generic technology that shall eventually be exploited in the evolution of Airbus aircraft, allowing engineering processes and structural manufacturing to be optimised in aeronautical plants. These new technologies shall be the seed of future knowledge employed in the design of parts, manufacture and assembly, from concept design to final production.

“The technology currently employed in the world of video games, touching on virtual reality, allows for the status and condition of objects and people to be available at any given moment, in addition to precise tracking and the detection of a range of parameters. The aim is to apply this type of system to an industrial context so that, for example, the behaviour of manufacturing plant employees may be distinguished providing all the possible information to optimise work, contribute to their decision making and ultimately improve management and operations” explains Pedro de Melo, Director of the British AERTEC Solutions subsidiary.

The videogame sector offers huge technological potential for the future international market as its virtual reality applications are being researched and developed for high technology industries such as the aerospace, automotive and engineering industries, etc., as well as in applications for the development of professional and educational skills in addition to the health care field.

The United Kingdom, AERTEC Solutions´ positive investment

The United Kingdom is one of the markets of most strategic interest to AERTEC Solutions, a firm with projects underway in the five continents, yet specifically focused on the European market. Being awarded this contract has both secured and strengthened the expansion of this multinational firm in the British market, where its new office in Bristol opened its doors at the start of 2013.

In fact, due to the great strategic importance of the British market in this specialised branch of Aerospace, a section of the General Management has relocated to Bristol. This new project offers the engineering consultancy the opportunity to branch out its relations with Airbus in the UK, strengthening their presence and geographical proximity with the European manufacturer, as well as penetrating a globally innovative and technologically privileged context.

“There are two reasons why this project holds so much significance for us. Firstly, for its contribution to the innovative processes currently being developed by EADS to apply in their future aeronautical programmes, and secondly, because AERTEC Solutions is now an active part of the UK Technology Strategy Board”, explains Pedro Pablo Sánchez, Company Innovation Director.

AERTEC Solutions boasts an outstanding track-record in the UK and Ireland, with its first international contract executed in Britain at London Luton Airport in 2001. Since then the firm has undertaken a number of other projects at UK airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Cardiff and Guernsey, in addition to the Irish airports of Dublin and Kerry.
