My first few days at AERTEC

For a period of time, I was the after-sales engineer working on the AERTEC account for a telecommunications operator. I heard about a job opening for the Cybersecurity Supervisor and I immediately applied for it. It seems like I was a good option because they asked me to join…

My experience in the field of aeronautics was limited to infrastructure deployments at airports and nothing else though. I can now say that I find this world incredibly interesting.

My career at AERTEC

I think my first day at AERTEC was the same as that of most of my colleagues: I was welcomed by my colleagues at the office, signed documents, received a PC and supplies, was given the onboarding talks, some welcome sweets… Time went by pretty fast on my first day at the office.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow in the IT Department as a member of the Systems and Cybersecurity areas. This is (and will continue to be) a constant challenge to improve our information systems, making them more secure and usable.

What I like most about my job

Above all, to be capable of designing a technical solution from scratch and implementing it. Most companies divide the work into different departments, and you usually only have access to part of the technology, either during the design, implementation or operation cycles. At AERTEC, we participate in the entire life cycle of the technical solution, which is a very rewarding experience.

What a normal day at AERTEC is like

We start with the daily checks of the different systems that support the company’s business processes. We then check the security alerts received and assess them to determine whether these refer to an actual incident or not. This last task is carried out throughout the day. We then handle the user support requests and work on different projects in progress during the rest of the day.

If I had to describe my colleagues in a few words, clearly, these would be: “they’re tireless”.

Working in AERTEC

Having worked for large and small enterprises, I would say that AERTEC is one of the best places to work at. It is big enough to develop an international professional career and small enough to allow you to know everyone and to feel that you are recognised for your work. Like in any company, not everything is perfect. From our own perspectives, we all think that some things can be improved. However, in my case there are many more pros than cons.

Life beyond the office: my hobbies

It might sound weird, but I enjoy my work as much as I enjoy my hobbies. In addition to spending time with my family, I like to study or practice in a small laboratory I have at home… which I will continue to use if I can pay for the vast amounts of electricity this consumes.
