AERTEC, the engineering and consulting company specialised in aeronautics currently participating in important global programmes within the aeronautics sector and present at more than 130 international airports, was present at the tenth edition of Transfiere, the European Forum for Science, Technology and Innovation, held February 12-13, 2020 at the Málaga Convention Centre (Fycma).
One of the main objectives of participating in this event was to propose the creation of new business models based on digital transformation at airports.
AERTEC’s participation took place within the framework of the “Open Innovation Area”, where the multinational held bilateral meetings with newly created companies in order to select those projects meeting its demands for innovation. These private meetings were held after the interested parties and AERTEC signed a confidentiality agreement.
The technological challenge proposed by the aeronautical company at this edition seeks innovative solutions to create business models based on Digital Transformation in the exploitation of data that an airport generates.
In practice, the objective was the analysis of business models based on Digital Transformation that is applied to the exploitation of an airport’s data, so that potential investments in new or existing systems can be profitable due to its capture, analysis and exploitation.
Airports are immersed in a process of continuous modernisation. However, it is not enough to deploy technology, regardless of how innovative it may be. This technology must demonstrate a contribution of tangible value to the business. Many of the existing technologies, despite providing real value to stakeholders, have not been able to be deployed in airports due to lack of an economic model that makes them viable.
The starting point is to take advantage of the data set generated by an airport in all its operational facets (management, services, security, airlines, commercial areas, transportation companies, parking management or the passengers themselves, among other areas) to generate new analysis and information flows that serve to improve everything from the passenger experience to the security itself in managing the facilities.
In this respect, and in the context of this edition of Transfiere, AERTEC convened research groups, technology centres, start-ups and spin-offs interested in showing their technological capabilities to meet this need. The result has been two days of intense meetings to identify common points of interest and evaluate proposals.
On the other hand, as the Transfiere forum is the main R&D+I event in Southern Europe, the AERTEC stand has presented the innovation projects the company is participating in at the national and European levels. The projects include IMASAT (Integrated Modular Avionics for Small Air Transport – GA-n °: 785523) (imasat.eu) and AS-DISCO [Audio Suite for Disruptive Cockpit Demonstrator – GA nº: 865416] (as-disco.eu), both of which are led by AERTEC Solutions within the framework of Horizon 2020’s Clean Sky European aeronautical programme (cleansky.eu).
