In the few years since Airport International Group (AIG) has undertaken the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), Jordan’s prime aviation gateway to the world has been transformed, setting it on the path to becoming the ideal regional transfer hub for leisure and business travel.

After being awarded a 25-year Build-Operate-Transfer concession in 2007 following an open global tender, Airport International Group (AIG) embarked on a journey with QAIA that has been nothing short of inspiring. In 2013, we achieved an incredible milestone with the unveiling of our new 119,000 sqm state-of-the-art terminal. Inaugurated under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the terminal has modernized the Airport’s facilities, increased passenger capacity and enhanced travelers’ experiences.
The Airport has since gone on to add numerous accolades and successes to its name. Achieving unprecedented results in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Survey – the world’s leading benchmark program for airport passenger satisfaction and service levels – QAIA has climbed from its 2012 old terminal ranking of 186th to the new terminal ranking of 34th out of approximately 300 airports worldwide. In 2014, QAIA claimed first place in the overall 2014 ASQ Awards in the categories of ‘Best Airport by Region: Middle East’ and ‘Best Improvement by Region: Middle East.’ QAIA has also become the first airport in the Middle East to achieve level two Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), recognizing its successful efforts to map and reduce its carbon footprint; we endeavor to achieve the third ACA level in 2016 through further carbon reduction optimization.
Continuing its development, QAIA’s second expansion phase, slated for completion in 2016, is set to boost annual passenger traffic to up to 12 million. Building upon QAIA’s world-class service, the expansion will include the introduction of Super Fixed Link Bridges to accommodate wide body aircrafts and increase boarding capacity, as well as an increased number of remote boarding lounges. We will also be introducing larger monitors, providing additional charging stations, upgrading our Wi-Fi system and installing travelators, making travel as smooth and easy as possible. As of the end of September 2015, 81% of the second expansion phase has been completed.
Thanks to its enhanced infrastructure, a passenger-centric corporate culture and a commitment to continuous development across the board, QAIA has achieved immense progress. Through our carefully studied route development strategy and open skies policy, we strive to continue to actively support National Tourism Strategy goals by highlighting Jordan as a dynamic location for business, leisure, investment and acclaimed industry events, and by acting as a key contributor the Kingdom’s prosperity.
