The multinational technology company has signed agreements with the Spanish DoD, expanded the scope of its work for Airbus, founded a new subsidiary for defence and dual airborne technologies, relocated its facilities in the Middle East and increased its involvement in European projects and international trade fairs, among other milestones.
Madrid, 30 December 2024 – The Spanish technology multinational Aertec closes 2024 full of new projects and strategic alliances in the fields of aeronautics, airport systems and defence. The increase in the number of developments, the significant progress of existing ones and the growing national and international recognition are consolidating Aertec as one of the leading European technology companies in its sector. Not only that: by January 2025, Aertec is preparing to announce important agreements on a national and European level with recognised continental partners.
Back in February of 2024, the company signed a contract with the Spanish Ministry of Defence to develop three remotely piloted aerial systems that include aerial platforms and ground control stations; specifically, these are RPAS systems of the TARSIS ISTAR model that will be used to integrate and validate new functionalities and payloads developed by the Directorate General of Armament and Material (DGAM).
At the end of the year, in November, a series of tests were successfully carried out in a real environment to prove the viability of transporting goods with drones over long distances. These tests form part of the European U-ELCOME project, which Aertec shares with the Advanced Centre for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC), the University of Seville and Pildo Labs, and whose objective is to bring medicines to remote areas with drones, thereby helping to facilitate the incorporation of U-space services in Europe.
In December, it was announced that Aertec is participating in the SiRTAP programme for the Spanish Ministry of Defence with Airbus Defence and Space, developing two pieces of equipment for this UAS: the secondary power distribution system and a data concentrator computer.
In addition, in 2024, Aertec created a new company, Aertec Defence & Aerial Systems, which aims to strengthen the company’s capabilities in the high-performance unmanned aerial systems segment and autonomous systems technologies in the dual field at European and international level. This new company will concentrate its activities on the design, development and manufacture of platforms and unmanned aerial vehicles with its own technology and products.
International expansion
Among Aertec’s milestones in 2024 are several strategic moves aimed at consolidating the firm globally. This year, the company relocated its facilities at Al Bateen airport in Abu Dhabi (UAE) to a larger office, which led to a significant increase in technical staff. This expansion is intended to accommodate the demand and the various projects arising in this market. The Middle East (including the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan) is one of the international markets in which Aertec has been playing a key role for more than two decades.
A similar move was made in Latin America in September: Aertec strengthened its position in this market full of opportunities with the opening of a new subsidiary in Colombia, a sales office in Bogota. In South America, the Spanish technology company has already participated in the development of more than twenty airport infrastructures and multiple projects related to unmanned aerial systems.
Presence at major international trade fairs
In addition, this year, Aertec has achieved high visibility thanks to the presentation of various technological projects at international fairs, several of which are related to the commitment to decarbonising air transport, working towards emission-free aviation by 2050. At the Aerospace & Defence Meetings (ADM) professional meeting held in May in Seville, the company showed some of its main technological advances focused on the management of electrical power in aircraft and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) with intelligent and modular devices, such as the AS27, capable of managing electrical power dynamically.
That same month, Aertec also presented at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), held in Hamburg (Germany), several of its technological solutions for the improvement of connectivity and the electrification of the aircraft with the aim of reducing emissions.
May was a month full of key events: more than a hundred professionals from Aertec’s Systems division attended the Aerospace and Defence Systems Technology Conference held at the Aerópolis Business Centre in Seville. During the event, they presented and shared different innovative projects that they are working on, as well as other initiatives in which they have participated in recent years, sharing details about their development and the results obtained.
Aertec demonstrated its operational and technological maturity in defence at the EUROSATORY international security and defence fair, which was held in Paris in July, with the presentation of the TARSIS-W UAS solution. This system is capable of arming with laser munitions and target designation, as well as being interoperable and multi-configurable. The presentation of this solution at the renowned Parisian event was a great success and also served to share the latest updates of Aertec’s systems with authorities, companies, administrations and potential partners.
AERTEC is an international technology company in the aeronautical sector with projects in more than 40 countries on 5 continents. It offers advanced and sustainable technological solutions in the aerospace, airport and defense industries, improving safety, efficiency and global connectivity. Together with its partners and customers, it evolves air mobility and defense towards a smarter and more sustainable future.
