History of Unmanned Aerial Systems

Undoubtedly, its use has been historically linked to military use. In fact, it was wars that, as in many other cases, gave a greater boost to its development. It was also precisely armed conflicts, thanks to the TV transmission of distant wars, that put those new names, which are barely pronounced correctly, on the lips of millions of citizens: drones, UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles), UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems), RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems)...

On the other hand, we have witnessed in recent years a small new revolution world: that of the civilian use of drones. Indeed, it has become more affordable for the ordinary citizen thanks to the development of small drones that allow almost any citizen to have access to one for a fairly affordable price.

How could it be otherwise? accessibility to this technology triggered the ingenuity and inventiveness of a multitude of people and companies who began to devise the possible uses, already civilian, that could be made of these devices. It was, in practice, the universalisation of UAS.

But few of those who remotely control a small unmanned aerial vehicle today are likely to be aware that the first similar craft were already in use in the mid-19th century.

In this regard, we have developed a infographics which recounts the main milestones in the history of unmanned aerial systems development. We invite you to download and share it. Enjoy it.
