Aircraft customisation

Until now, the concept that we have had of the aircraft interior design has been framed within the set of proposals offered by the manufacturers themselves to the airlines. Always with the catalogue in hand, the airlines have had the possibility of choosing between different configurationss where they could select a number of customised elements such as class layout, number and size of seats, seating arrangements, upholstery, accessories, cabin dividers, etc.

Aircraft interior customisation has always been a sector more focused on small executive models, not usually dedicated to commercial passenger transport.

However, in recent years we are witnessing a trend whereby, increasingly, the world's wealthy have a certain predilection for the acquisition of large aircraft for private use. Aircraft that typically carry hundreds of passengers are converted to carry a few dozen people through the air. But it doesn't end there: once you have invested several million euros or dollars in a large aircraft for a particular use, why not personalise it completely?

Interior design, a new aeronautical business.

Indeed, there are already several dozens of large aircraft (including the gigantic Boeing 747s and Airbus A380s) whose owners have decided to invest large sums of money in customising them down to the last detail. This includes any extravagance that, however bizarre it may seem, they can think of.

This trend has led to the emergence of new companies dedicated to this work, which involves the dedication of a large multidisciplinary team of designers, stylists, engineers, architects and specialists in areas as diverse as sound, furniture, ergonomics, lighting, painting, materials, etc. The customisation of an aircraft can be a burden of many thousands of working hoursdepending on the aircraft concerned.

Taking advantage of this trend, there are also airlines that have opted for differentiate yourself from your competition with the redecoration of cabin interiors. One of the most recent examples is an Icelandanair aircraft that has been completely "dressed" in Aurora Borealis, internally and externally.

In short, aircraft interior design is a fast-growing sector that is generating new opportunities. Do you want to know more about what can be done with the interior of an aircraft? Take a look at these two videos...
