World air traffic

n 2019, the peak before the pandemic, the Asia-Pacific region accounted for the highest volume of air and airport activity in the world.

Every day, tens of thousands of flights are responsible for moving people and goods between airports around the world. Air transport is growing continuously in recent years and we have already experienced days on which the 200,000 flights in a single day. There are even times when there are simultaneously almost 20,000 aircraft soaring through the skies. Those are very significant figures.

In South Korea, for example, over 1,500 passengers travel solely on the Seoul to Jeju route every 60 minutes, at any time of day and any day of the year. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States witnesses 204 passengers taking off or landing on a plane every minute. Or Hong Kong International Airport, for its part, handles 576 tonnes of cargo every hour.

But, as with any other sector we analyse, Not all global air traffic is distributed evenly.. Even on the busiest days of the year, there are airspace corridors that remain almost empty, while conversely, there are areas of the world that have planes passing overhead every few seconds at any time of day.

In this infographic we have tried to capture the Major airports and worldwide routes in order to have a clearer view of the areas where air traffic is most significant. Without a doubt, all the data lead us to consider that the area of Asia-Pacific it is the global hub of the aviation sector, followed by the United States and Europe.

In the infographics It is possible to see and value the routes and airports where the largest number of passengers travel or where the largest volumes of cargo are operated each year. There is no doubt that there are places in the world where air traffic does not rest.
