POWER – Power Electrical System Technologies for Decarbonization in Aviation

POWER is an R&D project co-financed by the Aeronautical Technology Program managed by CDTI, whose objectives focus on researching the enabling technologies necessary for the development of an electric propulsion system for sustainable aircraft.

AIRBUS Operations, LANCOR 2000, OBEK INNOBE, SKYLIFE Engineering and AERTEC held an annual follow-up meeting of the POWER Project, together with the CDTI follow-up technician.

The workshop, coordinated by Airbus Operations as leader of the POWER consortium, took place at AERTEC’s Development Center in the Aeropolis aeronautical complex in Seville.

POWER – Power Electrical System Technologies for Decarbonization in Aviation is an R+D project co-financed by the AERONAUTICAL TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRAM under the modality of “Large Strategic Projects” of 2023.

The company focuses on investigating enabling technologies necessary to deploy sustainable aircraft electrical propulsion systems. In addition to contributing to the aviation decarbonization process, POWER intends to cover:

  • Functional and safety implications of state-of-the-art HV (high voltage) contacts;
  • High efficiency concepts of high voltage conversion and distribution;
  • High efficiency and high-power density electrical machines; and
  • Smart integration, architecture and layout of electric motors and modular MCU (Motor Control Unit) to reduce total weight.

This project has been subsidized by the CDTI, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain, file number 00160225 / PTAG-20231007, through the call for the year 2023 of the procedure for granting aid for the “Aeronautical Technological Program” of the State Program to Catalyze Innovation and Business Leadership of the 2021-2023 National Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, as part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
