Together, the six London-area airports moved in the last year more than 170 million passengersof which 92,46% were on international flights, giving a clear picture of the importance of the London airport system in the global context.

The six airports are Heathrow (45,60% of total traffic), Gatwick (26,63%), Stansted (15,14%), Luton (9,35%), London City (2,65%) and Southend (0,64%). However, there are also a dozen or so smaller airfields and even airbases in the metropolitan area that have at one time or another contributed to civil passenger traffic for various reasons.

And where do they fly to? The majority of passenger traffic, almost 56%corresponded to routes to/from EU countriesThis was followed at a distance by passengers to/from the USA/Canada, which accounted for 12% of the total.
