POWER - Electrical power systems to decarbonise aviation

POWER is an R&D project co-funded by the Aeronautics Technology Programme managed by CDTI, whose objectives are focused on research into the enabling technologies needed for the development of an electric propulsion system for sustainable aircraft.

The companies AIRBUS Operations, LANCOR 2000, OBEKI INNOBE, SKYLIFE Engineering and AERTEC have held the annual monitoring meeting of the POWER project together with the CDTI monitoring technician.

This conference, coordinated by Airbus Operations as leader of the POWER consortium, took place at AERTEC's Development Centre at the Aerópolis aeronautical complex in Seville.

POWER - Power Electric System Technologies for Aviation Decarbonisation is an R&D project co-funded by the European Commission. AERONAUTICS TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME in the "Major Strategic Projects" category for the year 2023.

It focuses on investigating the enabling technologies necessary for the development of an electric propulsion system for sustainable aircraft. In addition to contributing to the process of decarbonisation of aviation, POWER aims to cover:

  • Functional and safety implications of the latest generation of HV (high voltage) contactors;
  • High efficiency high voltage conversion and distribution concepts;
  • High efficiency and power density electrical machines; and
  • Intelligent integration, architecture and topology of electric motors and modular MCU (Motor Control Unit) to reduce overall weight.
