Challenges for airport development in South America

 

AERTEC Solutions identifies Latin America as one of the main markets with the greatest growth potential in the airport sector.

 

AERTEC Solutions, a multinational engineering and consultancy company specialising in airports, aerospace, and air transport, has highlighted Latin America as a one of the airport markets with the highest growth potential forecast for the coming decades, according to airport director Carlos Berenguer International conference on infrastructure and energy that was held on September 9th and 10th in Bogotá (Colombia).

The main challenges in Latin America are making the necessary investments to have new and modern infrastructures and to offer quality services.

The company has been invited to participate with a presentation at the event “9th South America Infrastructure & Energy Summit”, one of the most prominent business meetings and forums taking place in Colombia and Latin America, and which in this case brings together the main companies, institutions, and players in the infrastructure, engineering, and energy sectors of the South American continent. In his conference, entitled “Challenges for Airport Development in South America”, Carlos Berenguer has highlighted the opportunity that this market represents for the further development of the airport sector, “something that is already being fostered by the intense change that is being experienced in various countries in recent years but which will be even greater in the future given the 6% growth in air transport foreseen for the continent over the next 20 years”.

In this sense, he pointed out that “the main challenge to meet this demand and to continue with the strong development of the airport sector in Latin America is not only through make the necessary investments to have new and modern infrastructures to meet this demand, but also by provide quality services for the attention of users of these future facilities, creating safe and comfortable spaces”. In his speech, Berenguer used some of the projects AERTEC Solutions has collaborated on as examples of the sector's development on the continent, referring to creation and improvement of facilities at the airports of Bogotá (Colombia), Lima (Peru), and Santiago (Chile)., The growth of these markets is expected to be significant in the coming years.

In conclusion, the airport director of AERTEC Solutions advocated that the Latin American states and governments continue with the strategy of airport project concessions which have been undertaken in recent years, “with open processes that contribute to the liberalisation of the air market and which, in the medium term, are the best guarantee for securing the future of the sector”. “This is not only making real the growth in demand and its adequate response in services and infrastructure, but also, and most importantly, it is achieving a major economic impact on cities and regions from various countries, and consequently, a benefit to society”.

The “9th South America Infrastructure & Energy Summit” is an event organised by BNamericas, a company that specialises in business meetings and forums across various industrial and technological sectors. It is supported by several companies, as well as business and financial institutions from Colombia and other Latin American countries. Executives and directors from major construction companies, engineering firms, logistics and transport companies, service providers, concessionaires, financial bodies, and equipment manufacturers have participated in the event. Some of the public institutions attending include the National Infrastructure Agency of Colombia (ANI), the National Port Authority of Peru (APN Peru), Uruguay's Investment and Export Promotion Agency, and the Metro systems of Santiago (Chile) and Bogotá and Medellín (Colombia).
