AERTEC Challenge Award presented

AERTEC has presented the award to winner of the first challenge“AERTEC Challenge”, the scholarship programme aimed at university students to collaborate with the company in the development of new technologies and innovative solutions for their application in the aerospace industry's most promising areas.

The winner of the programme has been Vicente Escaño Granados, a student at the Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Malaga (UMA), who has been offered by the company a Internship in their aerospace systems department.

The award and distinctions for the finalist students of the programme were presented by the Director of Innovation at AERTEC Solutions, Pedro Pablo Sánchez; the Vice-Rector for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Málaga (UMA), Rafael Ventura; the Director of the School of Telecommunication Engineers, Fabián Arrebola; and the President of the Andalusia Technology Park (PTA), José Luis Ruiz Espejo, at an event attended by the participants, as well as family and friends. This presentation took place at the Link by UMA space, in the building The Green Ray, which the University of Malaga and the Andalusia Technology Park share in the expansion of the Teatinos campus.

The “AERTEC Solutions Challenge” programme has been conceived with the aim of capture university talent to solve technological challenges that will have direct application in the real market, specifically in the area of embedded systems on unmanned aerial platforms (RPAS) that the company has been designing in recent years.

To achieve this, students, working in teams or individually, have spent the last few months developing various technological proposals and solutions aimed at addressing the challenge posed by the company. Specifically, this first challenge has been focused on studying the Feasibility of increasing the range in ground-to-air transmissions between the ground station and one of the unmanned aerial platforms (RPAS) designed by AERTEC Solutions for observation and surveillance applications.

Around twenty students from the University of Malaga have taken part in the initiative, all belonging to the Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering, with four teams reaching the final stage for the selection of the best proposal. The members of the three finalist groups were Francisco Alejandro Jurado, Juan Pedro Rodríguez, Dionisio Romero, David Jiménez, María Luisa Marí Altozano, Michele La Malva Moreno and Alejandro Serrano Rueda.

The jury for the “AERTEC Solutions Challenge” highlighted that the winning proposal outstandingly met almost all the evaluable points of the challenge, proposing a completely viable and suitable solution within the RPAS environment, low-cost and low-power. Additionally, it includes an innovative solution for increasing the transmission antenna range between the ground station and the unmanned aircraft, explaining its operation and use from both a logistical and deployment perspective.

Likewise, the jury has highlighted the high quality of all proposals submitted, with very creative solutions, which demonstrates the great work carried out by the young university students, as well as their level of knowledge in the subject and the involvement of all the teams participating in the project.
