The challenge of expected passenger growth

 

Over the last five years, the airports they have experienced a great transformation in their activity and in the services they offer passengers. The rise of low-cost airlines and social media has led to new variables that should not be overlooked when evaluating companies' new strategic policies.

The Bologna Marconi Airport aims to provide all transit passengers in the terminal with a smart and modern way to receive contextualised information.

In this context, the Bologna Airport (BLQ) has been working for the past five years on the implementation of numerous projects that allow it to take advantage of new technologies y Manage passenger experience better of its customers.

The airport has created, for example, a smart platform for businesses called «Know Your Customer» (Know your customerwhich includes:

  1. a management system customer relationship management (CRM);
  2. the extension of the Wi-Fi coverage across the entire airport surface;
  3. el uso de las social media;
  4. the launch of a Passenger tracking system which allows for control via mobile devices of people flow through the various airport spaces;
  5. the launch of a Terminal simulation system which allows simulating people flows and improving the efficiency and use of airport space;
  6. the launch of a Purchase reporting system at all points of sale (Shop View);
  7. a system called One Touch BLQ based on beacon technology and NFC tags and QR codes.

Bologna Marconi Airport aims to facilitate all transit passengers in the terminal. A smart and modern way to receive contextualised information with the aim of diversifying its information channels and improving the overall passenger experience. The first part of this project consists of providing predominantly operational information, and in a second phase, this tool will offer the capability to carry out commercial and proximity marketing operations.

In addition to this, and in accordance with its strategic approach towards “autotechnologies”, the Bologna Airport has developed other innovative projects. In collaboration with technology leader SITA, the airport has installed four counters for Self-service luggage delivery that will be shared among several airlines and that some of them will start using next month, as well as three Automatic border control machines at the passport control points in the arrivals area.

The airport has also developed, in collaboration with another technology partner, LOGITAL (Logital Group), an innovative system for the Hold baggage tracking through the technology of Bluetooth beacons and is working on a device for measuring hand luggage in the check-in area, also for shared use by several airlines.

Bologna Airport is moving forward on the path of technological innovation and is preparing for the challenge posed by the anticipated increase in passenger numbers.
