The aerospace industry in Colombia

The aerospace sector occupies a privileged position in the Colombian economy. In addition to being a sector that has been growing at double digit rates for the last five years and being among the group of Latin American countries with the third highest air traffic growth rate worldwide, it will have one of the nine mega aviation cities in Latin America, according to studies conducted by Airbus. It is a sector that generates and dynamises other sectors that support its operations, as well as bringing progress to remote areas of Colombia.

The creation and structure of the Colombian Aerospace Cluster is a strategic initiative for the cultural, social and economic transformation of Colombia.

The creation and structure of the Colombian Aerospace Cluster is a strategic initiative for the cultural, social and economic transformation of Colombia, led by the Colombian Air Force from its Centre for Aerospace Technology Development for Defence (CETAD), who with the participation of private enterprise and higher education institutions and various local, regional and national bodies, have formed a working team to structure a strategic platform for the development of the sector.

As a strategic technological initiative, it is made up of companies, industries, universities, research and development centres, as well as different public and private entities located in Colombia. As an entity in favour of the development of the sector, we look for the economic, social, cultural and technological transformation regions, enabling the different productive sectors to participate as world-class players in the aerospace market.

Today, our organisation has international alliances that have generated synergies, for example, with the Mexican aerospace industry. Likewise, we bring the manufacturing industry, in general, to meet the different requirements of the Colombian civil and military sector, in order to develop internationally validated processes and products, The new production lines will be consolidated. This in turn generates challenges in specialised training of human talent, certification processes and other aspects relevant to the country's competitiveness.

Today our products and processes are focused on serving the Colombian defence sector and we have certifications issued by bodies recognised by the Ministry of National Defence. These processes and products have fulfilled the highest demands and we have happily received recognition from the Colombian Air Force as a leading entity in Colombia in the knowledge generation around the aeronautics industry.
