In the development of the aerospace industry in the country, the Colombian Aeronautical Industry Corporation (Corporación de la Industria Aeronáutica Colombiana) has been a pillar that has driven progress through the acquisition of manufacturing and maintenance capabilities.
Our manufacturing experience began with the company AICSA - Aeroindustrial de Colombia S.A., with which, until the 1990s, we had the capacity to assemble Piper aircraft for the Andean Pact. Then, in 2009, we started to carry out the manufacturing process of 25 Calima T-90 aircraft, a primary training aircraft for the Colombian Air Force pilots made of composite materials (carbon and glass fibre). These aircraft are among the lightest and most mechanically resistant.
We work with faith in the future of the Colombian aerospace industry by generating innovation and development projects.
Among the industrial developments at CIAC, we have a certification by Embraer to modernise the Colombian Air Force's Tucano T-27 aircraft, making Colombia the only country, apart from Brazil, with the capacity to carry out this activity on these training aircraft.
In order to contribute to the innovation and development country we are working on the production of three remotely piloted aircraft development projects. The first is the Équites UAV, an aircraft that allows troops to monitor the territory within a perimeter of 10 kilometres. The second is the Quimbaya, a UAV that seeks to meet the surveillance and security needs of strategic locations of interest to a country. The last is the Atlante II, a development carried out by the Spanish and Colombian governments and the companies Airbus and CIAC in order to meet the needs of the military forces of both nations. We are also looking to export it to other allied countries.
The aircraft maintenance has been one of our main activities since our beginnings. Currently, at CIAC we are able to carry out maintenance on different aircraft of the Public Forces and civilian aircraft such as the B727 and B737. We also carry out Programmed Deppot Maintenance (PDM) on C130 Hercules aircraft of the Colombian Air Force - FAC, which allows us to offer major maintenance services to the Public Forces in the region. The structural repairs and maintenance of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters are one of the most representative advances in the country's industry.
This experience and acquired capabilities allowed manufacturers such as Airbus Defence and Space to certify us as an MRO service centre for CN-235 and C-295 aircraft.
In this way, we seek not only to continue to support the security forces, but also to be a support for commercial enterprises becoming a maintenance centre for ATR 42 and A320 aircraft.
In order to offer and export a good service we achieved certification in the specialised standards EN 9100, EN 9110 and ISO 28000. At CIAC we seek to serve international markets and building strategic partnerships with manufacturing companies such as Airbus and Embraer, thus contributing to the global aerospace value chain.
We work with faith in the future of the country's aerospace industry, seeing the Corporación de la Industria Aeronáutica Colombiana as the spearhead in the generation of innovation and development projects which will support the participation of national and international companies in the sector's value chain.
