ECORPAS Project

Design of a remotely piloted aircraft equipped with an advanced fuel cell-based power unit for environmental monitoring applications

Programme:

Smart Growth Operating Programme 2014-2020

Period:

2015-2017

Area of innovation:

Aerial platforms

Project objectives

This project is led by AERTEC with the participation of CESA and SKYLIFE as partners. ECORPAS aims to develop a remotely piloted aircraft that weighs less than 25 kg, with a long flight range for environmental monitoring. This involves three technology challenges:

The development of a power system based on PEM fuel cell technology which allows onboard energy to be increased.

The development of an integrated control system (for energy and the aircraft) which adapts flight paths in real time to optimise energy consumption.

The design and development of an aircraft that is specially designed to increase its range, and in turn is capable of integrating the mission system required for environmental monitoring tasks.

AERTEC’s contribution

The activities (or WPs) performed by AERTEC within the ECORPAS project were as follows:

  • ECORPAS system specifications.
  • Design and development of the platform and the control and mission systems.
  • Design and development of the power system.
  • Design and development of the energy control system.
  • Ground integration and testing.
  • Flight tests.
