The six airports are Heathrow (45,60% of total traffic), Gatwick (26,63%), Stansted (15,14%), Luton (9,35%), London City (2,65%) and Southend (0,64%). However, there are also a dozen or so smaller airfields and even airbases in the metropolitan area that have at one time or another contributed to civil passenger traffic for various reasons.
And where do they fly to? The majority of passenger traffic, almost 56%corresponded to routes to/from EU countriesThis was followed at a distance by passengers to/from the USA/Canada, which accounted for 12% of the total.
