Since the first commercial flight 100 years ago, the first commercial flight in the world has beenhe aeronautics industry has grown to the point of contributing to 2.4 billion to the world economy, according to figures obtained from the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG). The Airports Council International (ACI) is proud to represent airports around the world: essential components of the global aviation industry, engines of local economies and drivers of world economic growth.

In parallel to the general changes that the aeronautics industry has undergone over the last century, the airports have evolved; have evolved from simple infrastructure providers to complex businesses. on their own merits. Worldwide, some 470,000 people work directly for airport operators and if we add to this the on-site workers of airlines, ground handlers, retailers, restaurants, hotels, government agencies and other employees, this number rises to 4.6 million.

Collaboration and knowledge sharing are the keys to raising the standard of the industry as a whole.

However, despite the leaps and bounds aviation has taken over the last century, there is still much work to be done in order to ensuring continued progress over the next 100 years. For its part, ACI works closely with key industry players on priority issues related to safety, environmental and economic sustainability, customer service, organisational continuity, training and more.

Some of the many ACI initiatives aimed at helping airports operate sustainably and successfully include the APEX (Airport Excellence) programme in operational safety and securityThe project is an expert review project aimed at airports wishing to increase their security levels; Global Trainingwhich offers a suite of online classes and courses covering all aspects of airport operations; ACA (Airport Carbon Accreditation)a programme designed to help airports meet our industry's ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions; ASQ (Airport Service Quality)Our customer service reference programme; and our publications, which cover everything from safety and environmental issues to traffic statistics and economic data.

What all the above-mentioned initiatives have in common is that they all focus on the establishment of a dialogue. ACI believes that collaboration and knowledge sharing are the keys to raising the standard of the industry as a whole.

For this reason it is a pleasure to have my article included in the first issue of this Newsletter, AERTEC Solutions' own contribution to knowledge sharing within the industry. I invite you to read the articles and news in this newsletter carefully and, just as importantly, to share them with your colleagues so that we continue on the road to a bright future for the aviation industry.

Greetings,
