AERTEC Electrification of aircraft

Committed to decarbonisation

AERTEC is committed to the decarbonisation of aviation and is actively working on the development of technological solutions in the field of electrification, addressing challenges associated with increasing electrical power, the replacement of conventional systems and the evolution of on-board energy architectures.

With years of experience in this field, AERTEC specialises in developing smart and dynamic power distribution solutions to meet the future energy needs of aircraft.

AERTEC Electrification of aircraft

Technological objectives in aviation electrification

At AERTEC, the development of advanced electrical systems is geared towards meeting the requirements of future aircraft through:

  • Use of disruptive and innovative technologies.
  • Replacement of electromechanical systems with electronic systems.
  • Improvements to monitoring systems.
  • Improved overall aircraft efficiency.
  • Increase in power density.
  • Efficient management of increased energy demand (HVDC).
  • Compliance with stringent requirements regarding protection, insulation and heat dissipation.

This approach positions AERTEC at the forefront of developing advanced architectures for increasingly electric aircraft.

Expertise in aircraft electrical systems

AERTEC Electrification of aircraft

Advances in the field of electrification require architectures capable of managing complex electrical networks, with higher voltage and power ranges, and the ability to adapt in real time. AERTEC focuses its efforts on the design and development of innovative systems for electrical management and distribution in aircraft.

The company employs advanced techniques for controlling AC/DC electrical systems and develops efficient, intelligent, dynamic and reconfigurable power distribution solutions for aircraft loads.

AERTEC's capabilities include:

  • Use of innovative sensors (MEMS) for monitoring the condition of the electrical system.
  • Decentralised and scalable power converters.
  • Power distribution networks based on solid-state devices.
  • Management of aircraft electrical system data and the application of health monitoring and predictive diagnostics techniques.

These solutions enable us to meet the increased demand for electricity resulting from the gradual electrification of aviation systems.

AERTEC Electrification of aircraft

We design and develop systems for the intelligent management and distribution of energy across all voltage ranges, including HVDC environments (>540 VDC; >1 kW)

Similarly, the increasing use of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) in aircraft requires validation environments that integrate thermal and electrical management. In this field, AERTEC develops independent test benches that supply power to the equipment and incorporate electrical and thermal models, enabling the integrated replacement of aircraft hardware. Its scope includes the emulation of power generators and electrical and thermal loads associated with the aircraft’s Thermal Management System.

These systems enable the validation of HVDC architectures and power management solutions under controlled conditions.

AERTEC Electrification of aircraft

The digitalisation of the electrical system is a key element in the electrification of aviation. AERTEC develops remote applications for the real-time monitoring and independent control of loads.

These solutions enable:

  • Monitoring of sensors for all connected loads.
  • Real-time data visualisation.
  • Access to historical data and real-time alerts.
  • Remote control of relays.

Our system integrates monitoring, data analysis and operational control into a single platform, facilitating the efficient management of the aircraft’s electrical system.

AERTEC PDU

Power Distribution Unit

The PDU-DC está compuesta por una placa base que controla nueve placas de alimentación independientes.

The mother board has a redundant / dual input power supply (primary and auxiliary) that allows a hot swapping between them (less than 500 us), delivering a smooth and continuous power to daughter boards without interruptions.

Also, it has a redundant / dual RS-485 full-duplex ports, to be able to command the opening / clossing of Solid- State Power Controllers.

Future-oriented aviation electrification

AERTEC’s expertise in power management, HVDC architectures, smart distribution and digital monitoring is well-suited to the requirements of increasingly electrified aircraft and the challenges associated with the growing demand for power on board.

Through the development of innovative solutions, its own testing facilities and advanced electrical systems, AERTEC contributes to the technological advancement of aircraft electrification.
