Vertiport planning (2022)
Through its subsidiary BLUENEST, the infrastructure operator GLOBALVIA has commissioned AERTEC to draw up a white paper as a roadmap for the implementation of an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) network, with a focus on global markets, particularly in Europe, the USA and the Middle East. The white paper covers the main topics surrounding the development of AAM, including:
- Update and review of the UAM industry's value chain, identifying all key stakeholders in the ecosystem (i.e. OEMs, system providers, operators, authorities).
- Defining use cases and potential users, identifying the design aircraft for each case to enable airspace and vertiport planning, based on range, speed and payload requirements.
- Analysis of current regulations and definition of the future regulatory landscape necessary to meet the demands of users and society.
- Study of potential airspace restrictions around vertiports and applicable obstacle limitation surfaces and volumes, and their impact on the urban environment.
- Conceptual development of various types of modular vertiport infrastructures, with different sizes and services depending on their demand, use cases and locations (open areas, elevated areas, coastal areas).
- Assessment of energy supply needs and potential for eventual self-sufficiency.
- Identifying social and environmental issues, and possible mitigation measures that OEM, navigation services and vertiport operators can implement to achieve public acceptance.
- Defining the services that vertiport operators will offer to air carriers and the interactions in the ecosystem between vertiport operators, air carriers and ATM service providers.
- Requirements for the operation of vertiports, including identifying and quantifying all requirements: safety, security, facility management, and automation.
Within this project, working with one of the leading architectural firms allowed us to develop a unique design for a cost-effective, sustainable, and modular vertiport that heralds a new era in mobility.
AERTEC's has brought added value by applying our extensive knowledge of airports and heliports, air navigation studies, aircraft and aeronautical systems to the burgeoning eVTOL market.
