VIP hangars, cargo terminal and associated facilities at Jubail Airport (Saudi Arabia)

Client: Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu (RCJY)
Design of aprons and associated systems, design of visual aids: AGL, signalling and ground lighting, hangar and MRO design, cargo terminal and access road design, urban development and parking areas (2021-2022)

The Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu sought to establish a public-private partnership for Jubail Airport, commencing the airport’s activities with cargo and VIP operations.

AERTEC and our partner Dar Al-Riyadh were selected, having successfully completed the Jubail Airport Master Plan and the design of the terminal buildings and infrastructure, with AERTEC as the lead consultant.

The work consisted of a detailed design and RFP and IFB packages for the construction of a VIP hangar building and cargo terminal, with associated airside (aprons, taxiways) and landside (car park, access road) facilities, as well as utility connections and public facilities.

The VIP hangar building had a total area of 4421 m2, with two 42 x 42 m hangars housing two AIRBUS A319s, as well as a wide range of smaller aircraft. The design included the apron and all auxiliary systems.

The cargo terminal consists of a three-storey building with a total area of 3066 m2, with space for two operators and for customs and the authorities.

The apron and taxiway, car park and all auxiliary systems were also included in the design.

The design was carried out according to the Master Plan and the airport development strategy, taking into account the interim phases with other contracts, the airport phasing schedule and the necessary permits and approvals.

AERTEC developed the BIM model for the VIP hangars according to the RCJY BIM standards.
