Project management and technical support for the Jorge Chávez International Airport Expansion Programme in Lima (2015-2024)

AERTEC has been actively involved in implementing the Jorge Chávez International Airport Expansion Programme in Lima (Peru) since April 2015, participating in the initial design phase. Since then we have been providing technical consultancy and integrated project management services.

The activities involved in this Expansion Programme cover almost all of the airport's infrastructures, although the tasks performed by AERTEC are centred on two work packages, one on the airside (package 2) and the other on the landside (package 3).

Work Package 2 (airside) includes the construction of all new infrastructures necessary for the future operation of a second new runway (16L-34R) and its associated taxiways, an engine test area, new transformer stations for the ILS-LOC, GP and radar, access controls, etc. It also includes the construction of new buildings on the airside, e.g. the control tower, the fire station building, an electrical substation, the lighting field electrical centre and a centre for wildlife control.

Work Package 3 (landside) is centred on the construction of the new infrastructures in the area between the two runways, including the new Terminal 2 (180,000 m2 and with a capacity for 20 million pax per year), its associated aircraft apron (with 26 new stands), the new access roads to the airport, and a set of buildings and associated utilities on the adjacent landside plots.

Proper organisation of AERTEC’s team has been paramount for the successful completion of this work, with one team based onsite at the airport and another remote team, in addition to specialists spread across AERTEC's different offices, providing support to airport employees for anything they may require.

In short, the main tasks carried out by AERTEC in this Programme have been:

  • Developing the designs for the expansion of the airfield and aprons at Jorge Chávez International Airport. This expansion included a new runway that is 3,480m long and 45m wide, as well as a Code E (ICAO) taxiway system. The aprons that we designed covered an area greater than 700,000 m2.
  • Preparing the necessary technical documentation for the tender documents for the expansion of Jorge Chávez International Airport and providing technical support during the bidding process for the various parts of the project.
  • Project management services and technical design support to LAP’s team for the Jorge Chávez International Airport Expansion Project. The services provided by AERTEC include consultancy, discussions and negotiations, development and preparation, updating and monitoring compliance with technical contract documents, especially the Employer's Requirements and Design Brief, as well as technical support to Project Control Management to ensure smooth coordination with Design Management, with special emphasis on monitoring and control of the works schedule and their costs.
