IMASAT Project

Definition and implementation of the integrated modular avionics (IMA) concept for light small air transport aircraft

Programme:

Clean Sky II

Period:

2007-2013

Area of innovation:

Validation systems for new architectures and efficient algorithms / Onboard systems

Project objectives

The aim of this research is to define and implement the concept of integrated modular avionics (IMA) for light small air transport (SAT) aircraft with between 6 and 19 passengers. The goal is for the European aeronautical industry to adopt fly-by-wire (FBW) systems to reduce the weight of avionics systems, reduce maintenance operations and improve safety by also enhancing the human-machine interface, and automatically helping to stabilise the aircraft.

The research for this project is focused on the design, manufacture, and qualification of a new computer node suitable for use in flight control in this air transport segment (SAT), by rethinking the architecture, design, software, production, and certification of a new concept in integrated modular avionics. AERTEC is leading the IMASAT project, in partnership with Clue Technologies, a specialist manufacturer of electronic systems for the aerospace industry.

AERTEC’s contribution

Within this project, AERTEC's activities were:

  • Drawings of the entire system and its components.
  • Electrical and control design and manufacturing.
  • Electrical and conditioning cabinets.
  • Specifications for the custom manufacture of power supply units for the PTB.
  • HMI software design document.
  • Interface control document.
  • Wiring diagram.
  • The system's specifications document.
  • Verification and validation plan.
  • Test procedures.
  • Development plans, configuration management, risk management and quality control.
