Client: Hong Kong International Airport / Atkins / Mott MacDonald
Design of visual aids: ground lighting and signalling (2016-2018)

AERTEC was part of the design team for the third runway (3RS) at Hong Kong International Airport, in charge of designing the new visual aid control system being installed in the new control tower and in other new and existing locations. We also designed the technical specifications for operating the new system, carried out field research, assessed the various options available on the market, set out the requirements for the various stakeholders, and held numerous meetings to provide the details of the new system.

This design package also included the new test platform for visual aids, and the detailed design of the fibre optic communication network for visual aids.

AERTEC drew on its knowledge of the visual aids market to establish specifications that were in line with what the market could offer, while at the same time meeting the client’s stringent requirements. Our expert knowledge of the design and operation of visual aids was vitally important in drawing up a detailed document that would provide flexibility for suppliers when tendering their systems, with the required integrity and robustness to ensure that the end product would meet the expectations of Hong Kong International Airport.
