Apron expansion design at El Dorado Airport, Bogotá (Colombia)

Client: OPAIN
Design of runways and taxiways, design of parking aprons and associated systems (2020-2021)

OPAIN, the company that manages El Dorado Airport, awarded AERTEC a contract to draw up a design for the construction of two aprons located in different parts of the airport's manoeuvring area.

The work consisted of developing a detailed design of two (2) aprons: the cargo apron and the eastern apron, together with their associated taxiways. The work included designing the geometric layout of the aprons, the sizing of parking stands and the analysis of aircraft movements, as well as designing the paving, drainage, AGL and apron lighting.

For this project, AERTEC provided its extensive experience in designing airport infrastructures, as well as its expertise in airport operability analyses.

At an operational level, we faced two major challenges: the phasing of construction had to allow for different areas of the same apron to be brought into operation as the works progressed, and they had to be seamlessly integrated with the existing infrastructure. AERTEC successfully combined both of these elements to the airport operator's satisfaction.
