AERTEC Solutions was appointed, in association with PM Group, to undertake a study of the opportunities for the integration of Shannon Free Zone with Shannon Airport as an enabler for a proposed International Aviation Services Centre (IASC).
This study identifies key opportunities to support the realisation of IASC that exist within the hugely advantageous land, property and infrastructural assets at the point of interface between the airport and Shannon Free Zone West.
The study also identifies strategic opportunities for the following activities within the airside / landside zone between the airport and SFZ West:
¬ MRO activities and auxiliary services, including aircraft dismantling, finishing, line and base maintenance, etc.
¬ Corporate and private aviation
¬ Air cargo
¬ Aviation training and related activities
¬ Aviation ancillary businesses
The result of the study is a set of recommendations for the spatial development of the airfield and Shannon Free Zone interface, identifying concrete areas and spaces that could be used for specific activities.
The study not only takes into consideration the aspirations of the IASC, but also assesses unavoidable airport restrictions that deeply influence the development capabilities such as Obstacle Limitation Surfaces, Navigation Aids protection, and safeguarding of the existing airport operation, amongst others.
