Airbus selects AERTEC Solutions as referenced supplier for manufacturing engineering services for commercial aircraft

– The engineering and consultancy firm becomes one of the few Spanish Tier One companies in manufacturing engineering.

– Two important contracts worth close to two million euros, involving work on the main Airbus commercial aircraft programmes, such as: A350, A380, A320 and A330.

– The multinational firm has been awarded these contracts after a stringent selection process by Airbus for engineering services suppliers (entitled ME3S).

– In order to access these contracts, AERTEC Solutions was required to demonstrate its technical capabilities, industry know-how and experience in the aeronautical sector. The firm has extensive knowledge and a proven track record for Airbus Defence and Space in the A400M, A330MRTT, C295/CN235, EUROFIGHTER, ATLANTE and nEUROn programmes, among others.

The multinational engineering firm AERTEC Solutions, specialised in the aerospace and aviation industries, and present in some of the world’s most important aerospace programmes, has been selected by global aerospace manufacturer Airbus as referenced supplier for commercial aircraft manufacturing engineering services. More specifically, the company will provide engineering services in different areas of the manufacturing process, including: industrialisation activities, manufacturing and assembly support, and other design and production support activities. The firm initially be involved in a range of different aircraft programmes including: A350, A380, A320 and A330.

The AERTEC Solutions, now making a shift over into commercial aviation, has been awarded this contract after a stringent selection process by Airbus for engineering services suppliers (entitled ME3S). The work packages have been divided into a number of different specific activities or clusters. The firm will be a Tier One or referenced supplier in the area entitled “Jigs and Tools / Machine and Automation” as leader of a consortium formed with a French firm.

The contract includes the provision of engineering services at the Airbus plants in France, Germany, United Kingdom and Spain. Its activities will be centred around engineering services for the manufacturing process, tooling and the plant automation systems. A number of other tasks will also be performed including workload management and the distribution of technical specifications to other subcontractors and auxiliary companies of Airbus.

AERTEC Solutions is one of only two Spanish engineering firms selected to lead one of the consortiums that submitted a bid for the process, and was finally awarded the engineering services contract as workgroup leader.

Another important part of the engineering work to be undertaken by the firm will be in the “Work Preparations” area or cluster. In consortium with another French firm it will provide engineering services for industrialisation, manufacturing and other production support work on the different Airbus programmes, such as A350, A380, A320 and A330 in all Airbus Spanish plants. With these contracts, the company should see an increase in its annual turnover close to two million euros.

“These projects will give AERTEC Solutions both a quantitative and qualitative advantage, providing us with a direct point of entry into the commercial aviation and space markets, providing engineering services for the main Airbus civil programmes,” pointed out Antonio Gómez-Guillamón, Managing Director of the firm. Furthermore “it will consolidate the position of AERTEC Solutions as lead contractor for this type of services, providing new business opportunities and collaborations in other countries where Airbus operates, especially the United Kingdom”, he added.

In order to access these contracts, AERTEC Solutions was required to demonstrate its technical capabilities, industry know-how and experience in the aeronautical sector. It provided examples of projects undertaken involving specific tasks such as the capability to integrate with other subcontractors and auxiliary firms in the Airbus supply chain. This experience is a result of its proven track record in projects for Airbus Defence and Space and its military division in the A400M, A330MRTT, C295/CN235, EUROFIGHTER, ATLANTE and nEUROn programmes, among others.

Aerospace manufacturing know-how

AERTEC Solutions already has extensive experience in undertaking engineering work and services for the Airbus commercial division. The firm is currently involved in a contract for the Airbus Project Management Office (PMO) in Spain, and will continue covering the requirements in this area in the different centres around the country until 2016.

Selection as a manufacturing engineering services supplier for Airbus commercial aircraft will allow the firm to apply the in-depth knowledge and experience it has gleaned from almost a decade of different projects carried out in this area for Airbus Defence and Space. “This initiative will allow us to demonstrate the technical and operational experience that we have built up with Airbus DS. We will be able to strengthen our engineering services and position ourselves as a leading firm for other large international aerospace manufacturers,” commented David Doral, Industry and Manufacturing Director at AERTEC Solutions.

The company has collaborated with Airbus DS during a number of years after a change in the way of working with engineering firms. A reduction in the number of suppliers has led to the creation of a more complete engineering service. “Through this new system, divided up into a series of specific work packages for the engineering subcontractors, a higher level of value is added to the end product and to important aspects such as organisation, management systems and monitoring, etc. This experience and know-how has allowed us to access these new contracts and apply it to Airbus commercial aircraft. It will also allow us access to other countries in which both Airbus and our firm operate”, David Doral highlighted.

AERTEC Solutions is a multinational engineering and consultancy firm specialised in the aeronautical industry, airports and air transport. It has undertaken projects in 16 countries across five continents, with project references at more than 70 international airports. The firm is also present in the world’s biggest aerospace programmes. It has offices in Spain, United Kingdom, France, Portugal and Morocco, with a workforce of more than 380 aeronautical professionals.
